New clashes between groups of refugees and migrants of different nationalities broke out on Monday evening inside the Moria hot spot in Lesvos, police said. Around 4,000 asylum seekers have escaped the camp in the Aegean island of Lesbos.
The blaze at the Moria camp has left a trail of destruction including damaged tents and housing units.
A rumour that 5 Pakistanis and 2 Moroccans died while being transported in a truck in some Greek port, resulted in about 200 Pakistani migrants breaking out of the Moria hotspot in Lesvos, and marching on the city of Mytilene in protest. The Pakistanis smashed two cars of employees outside the reception centre on their way to the city centre, about 8km from the hotspot.
Pope Francis arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos on April 16, turning the world's attention to the frontline of Europe's migrant crisis which has claimed hundreds of lives in the past year.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Fener Rum Patriarch Dimitri Bartholomeos and Archbishop of Athens welcomed him at the airport.
