A shocking 65.7 percent of respondents in a new survey conducted at the Moria hot spot and other migrant and refugee camps on the Aegean island of Lesvos said they "never feel safe" in the facilities where they are staying.

The leader of the Moria community on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos ended on Wednesday a hunger strike which he had started on Sunday in protest at overcrowding at the Moria reception center.

A batch of new arrivals over the weekend pushed the population at the already overcrowded Moria refugee camp on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos close to the 7,500 mark, after it had managed to ease down to 6,872 late last week - meager respite at a facility built for a maximum of 3,000 people.

About 900 asylum seeking Kurds have left the reception and identification center in Moria on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos and refuse to return, following the violent clashes between migrants last Friday that left six people injured.

Concerns about overcrowding at migration reception centers have resurfaced following fresh clashes at the Moria camp on Lesvos on Sunday night.

According to the news website Lesvosnews.gr, several migrants were injured in the fracas and transferred to the island's main hospital for first aid treatment.

About 200 migrants and refugees, most of them from Afghanistan, reportedly spent the night at the central square of Mytiline, capital of Lesvos island in the eastern Aegean, following a march Tuesday to protest delays in processing applications and living conditions at the notoriously overcrowded Moria hotspot.
