Slovenian banks are sounding the alarm and urging the central bank to ease lending conditions after a significant increase in the minimum wage and new capital requirements have rendered much of the population ineligible for a mortgage.

An unpredictable year has begun for the real estate market, as countervailing forces from the supply and demand side collide.

The government is working on a new plan to help people buy existing homes, Environment and Climate Change Murat Kurum has announced.

Kurum recalled that the "My New Home Program" announced last week is designed to provide cheaper loans to middle-income groups but the new project will provide opportunities for people to buy existing houses.

The platform for the subsidy of vulnerable households by banks is expected to open in mid-February, covering half of the additional burden resulting from interest rate hikes.

It didn't take long for the housing loan installments to "soar" up by 100 euros, while at the same time, the prices of apartments for sale constantly grow, affecting rents to increase by up to 50 percent.

Mortgages with lower rates and longer maturities will be offered to middle income Turks looking to buy new housing, Turkish Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati said on Wednesday.

Nebati told a news conference the mortgage loans with amount up to 5 million lira ($266,823), will have up to 15 years maturity and rates will start from 0.69%.

The government is preparing to unveil the details of a housing project for middle-income groups.

The project will be announced on Jan. 4 at a press event in Ankara to be attended by Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati and Environment Minister Murat Kurum, according to the statement from the Environment and Climate Change Ministry.

Credit Suisse said yesterday it would pay $495 million as part of a deal reached with U.S. prosecutors in a long-running dispute over mortgage-backed securities, settling one of the last legal cases dating back to the 2008 financial crisis.    

A lot of people think that a reverse mortgage is something negative when in some cases it could be the opposite. This type of loan can, under specific circumstances, be beneficial for seniors, as it allows them to tap into their home equity without having to sell their property or take on a new mortgage.
