Anti-mosquito measures advised
The Athens Medical Association (ISA) is urging the public to take all necessary precautions in view of the spread of West Nile virus.
In a statement Friday, ISA advised people to spray insect repellent on their skin and clothing, and to use mosquito nets, fans or air conditioners and yellow bug lights.

Two New Cases of West Nile Fever Confirmed in Bulgaria
On 15 August, the reference laboratory for tick-borne infections at the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases confirmed two cases of West Nile fever, said the Ministry of Health.
West Nile virus death toll since June rises to six
The number of deaths caused by West Nile virus in Greece so far this year has risen to six, according to the weekly report by the National Health Organization (EODY), which was published Wednesday.
The report said the number of cases of the mosquito-borne virus recorded since June was 49 - 14 in the last week alone. The six people who died were all over the age of 60.

Mosquitoes carry viral meningitis in Bulgaria. There are nearly one-third more cases of meningitis since the beginning of the year than the previous year. The state has allocated another BGN 2 million to deal with mosquitoes.
Precautionary measures urged over West Nile virus
The Athens Medical Association (ISA) has expressed concern about the spread of West Nile virus and is urging the public to take all necessary precautions.
In a statement, it noted that there were 316 reported cases of the mosquito-borne infection last year, and that 50 of them were fatal. Most of the deaths, it said, were recorded in Attica.

On 12 July 2019, a disinsection campaign along the Danube will be launched, said the press office of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. The affected areas along the entire Danube will be treated through aerial spraying of insecticides. The first mosquito spraying will take place in Kozloduy Municipality.

Heralding the start of the mosquito season in Greece, the country's new National Organization for Public Health (EODY) - which replaces the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) - on Thursday urged the public to protect themselves and their families from West Nile and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
