The killing of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is a turning point in the fight against terrorism, the Turkish president said on Oct. 27.

At least nine foreign nationals were arrested in central Turkey on July 2 over their suspected links to the ISIL terror group, according to police sources.

The capsize of the boat, which was carrying families to a recreational spot on an island in the Tigris River on March 21, was the most deadly incident in the northern city since it was recaptured from ISIL in a bloody and destructive conflict in 2017.

 Turkish police on Feb. 17 rounded up four suspects in an operation against ISIL in the northwestern city of Bursa, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.       

Eleven people were detained in central Turkey on Sept. 27 over their suspected links to ISIL, according to a police source.

More than 3,000 civilians have been killed in US-led coalition air strikes against ISIL in Syria since they began four years ago, a monitor said on Sept. 23.

An Iraqi court on Sept. 19 sentenced a prominent jihadist described as a deputy of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to death on terrorism charges.

Egyptian troops and security forces have killed at least 52 suspected militants in recent days, the army said in a statement on Aug. 5, as authorities push ahead with an operation to crush Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
