38 pct of accidents linked to motorcycles in 2023: Minister

Türkiye witnessed an increase in motorcycle-related accidents, with 38 percent of fatal and injury accidents in 2023 caused by motorcycles, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has said.

Yerlikaya attended the opening of the 2024 Motobike Istanbul Fair on March 21, where he highlighted the increasing number of motorcycle accidents in the country.

Probe into officer wheelie

The police has launched a preliminary administrative inquiry in the wake of the uproar caused by a video that is making the rounds on the internet in which an officer of the DIAS motorcycle unit is seen doing a wheelie on a main road in the port city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece.

Car sales in Greece move up a gear in April

Car sales grew 1.9% in April, totaling 18,343 (new and used) from 17,994 in April 2002, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said.

New car sales totaled 10,995 in April, up 8% from April 2022. In the January-April period, car sales totaled 79,387, up 16.4% from the corresponding period last year, with new car sales totaling 47,865, up 37.6% over the same period.

Four police officers injured, lightly, in crash

Four officers with the Hellenic Police's motorcycle-riding DIAS squad sustained minor injuries in a collision with a car in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Filis Avenue in Liosion, northern Athens, when a car veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the two oncoming motorcycles that were carrying the four officers.

Moto Expo opens at Tae Kwon Do Stadium in Palaio Faliro

Moto Expo 2023 opened to the public on Wednesday at the Tae Kwon Do Stadium (Faliro Olympic Arena) in Palaio Faliro, southern Athens.

The annual event, centered around motorcycles, ATVs, scooters and mopeds, is held under the auspices of the Association of Motorcycle Importers of Greece (SEME) and will end on Sunday, April 2.
