Dimos Moutsis, singer, songwriter and composer, passes away at 86

Greek singer, songwriter, and composer Dimos Moutsis has passed away in Athens at the age of 86.

He was among the pioneering Greek composers, following in the footsteps of the musical giant Mikis Theodorakis, in setting poetry to music, notably employing synthesizers in his "Tetralogia" released in 1975.

Tribute to Greek Music | Athens | February 20

The Greek Music Workshop, led by singer-songwriters and musicians Vasilis Prodromou and Nikos Plios, presents an evening filled with Greek songs and melodies that have withstood the test of time. Gazarte, with the help of curator Christos Papamichalis and innovator Andreas Vayas, has selected a series of Greek folk songs that encompass the joy and laziness that is a Greek Sunday.

The Apaches of Athens | Athens | December 14-23

"The Apaches of Athens" is a 1921 Greek musical by Nikos Hadjiapostolou and Yiannis Prineas, in which the Viennese operetta meets the charming simplicity of mid-war Athens. Vasilis Mavrogeorgiou directs the Olympia Music Theater's (oly.gr) latest production, leading a cast of exceptional singers in a swirling musical feast just in time for Christmas.

Kadinelia | Athens | March 7

World acoustic duo Kadinelia comprised of Thanasis Zikas and Evi Seitanidou comes to the main stage of Stavros tou Notou for a concert blending traditional Greek music with elements of blues and rock. The duo was formed in 2013 and since 2014 has been covering traditional songs from Greece and other countries. The concert begins at 9 p.m.

Stavros Xarchakos | Athens | February 8, 15, 22 & March 7, 14, 21, 28

With tickets having sold out on the nights announced to date, composer and conductor Stavros Xarchakos has added more to his run of shows focused on laiko composers at Gazarte in downtown Athens. Xarchakos will conduct a seven-member orchestra of top soloists who will also accompany him on vocals.
