Police arrest fraudster on holiday island of Mykonos

A 38-year-old man has been accused of cheating tourism businesses on the popular Greek holiday island of Mykonos out of at least 38,000 euros' worth of goods and services, police said on Tuesday.

The suspect, who faced a prosecutor on Syros, the capital of the Cycladic islands, is said to have presented forged bank deposit statements in order to purchase room and vehicle rentals.

A total of 15 refugees and illegal migrants were left on the shores of the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos in the early hours of Wednesday. The Greek coastguard were taken aback when they discovered 9 men and 6 women stranded by human traffickers on the beach of Merchia. It is the second incident in 20 days after April 6.

Ferryboat crashes onto island dock; no one injured

A passenger ferry on Thursday morning crashed into the dock at the port of Chios in the eastern Aegean.

The Nissos Mykonos ferry, operated by Hellenic Seaways, was reportedly struggling against strong winds and choppy seas as it came into port shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, bumping violently against the concrete dock.
