Fire breaks out in Paros island

A fire erupted Monday on the island of Paros amid strong winds in the area.

According to the fire department, the blaze is currently consuming grassland outside the village of Naoussa.

An emergency 112 evacuation alert has been issued to the residents near the fire.

Two people dead from West Nile virus

Eight new cases of West Nile virus and two patient fatalities were reported in Greece over the last week, highlighting the dangers of mosquito bites.

This summer, a total of 11 cases have been reported to the National Public Health Organization, 10 of which were more serious due to central nervous system symptoms.

3.8-magnitude quake shakes Imathia

A light earthquake was recorded on Friday morning east of the northern Greek town of Naousa, in Imathia, according to a reading of the Seismological Station of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The epicentre of the 3.8-magnitude tremor recorded at 9.33 a.m. was eight kilometres east of the town of Naousa.

Teen injured in hit-and-run in northern Greece

A 12-year-old boy was injured when his bicycle was hit by a passing car in the city of Naousa, central Macedonia.

The incident took place on Tuesday night, according to state-run news agency ANA-MPA. The boy was transferred to the Ippokratio Hospital in Thessaloniki for treatment, although it was not clear what his injuries were.

Local police is investigating the incident.
