Wozzeck | Athens | January 19, 23, 26, 31 & February 2

French playwright and director Olivier Py breathes new life into Alban Berg's internationally acclaimed opera "Wozzeck," which is on stage at the Greek National Opera's Stavros Niarchos Hall in southern Athens for five performances between January 19 and February 2. GNO baritone Tassis Christoyannis stars in the title role and Vassilis Christopoulos conducts the GNO Orchestra.

Ice Skating | Athens | To February 2

The floating ice rink at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is open as part of the venue's holiday program. The rink has been set up at the start of the Canal, offering fans of the Christmasiest of sports the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic "inside view" of the majestic Dancing Fountains. The rink will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Schoolwave | Athens | July 5 - 7

School and university students hoping to break into the music scene will be performing at the 15th edition of the Schoolwave festival, taking place on the Great Lawn at the Stavros Niarchos Center (SNFCC) from July 5 to 7. Twenty-one rising rock, rap and funk artists, chosen from among 113 entries, will be taking the stage over the three-day festival.

The Chessboard Runaways | Athens | June 23-27

Featuring the Philharmonia Orchestra of Athens and music by George Kouroupos, "The Chessboard Runaways" is one of many events lined up for this year's Summer Nostos Festival. This opera-play hybrid tells the story of two rebellious lovers, the White Queen and the Black Knight, who escape their strict chessboard life to explore freedom in the outside world.

KAS green-lights shelter for ancient mass grave in Faliro, south of Athens

Greece's Central Archaeological Council (KAS) has given the green light for a study on a shelter to protect an ancient mass grave discovered in 2016 during digging at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center at Phaleron (present-day Faliro) Delta, south of Athens.

Dance Day | Athens | April 21

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) and the Greek National Opera celebrate International Dance Day on April 29 early with an all-day program of events dedicated to this wonderful art form. Performances, parties and classes will cover the range of genres, from tap, tango and breakdance to Greek folk dances. The admission-free event starts at 10 a.m.

No Finish Line | Athens | April 10-14

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is hosting the third annual No Finish Line charity race, an international event aimed at raising funds for organizations dedicated to helping children. Participants can either walk or run as long as they want, in any way, at any time they wish, as many times as they want, during the 90 hours of the event.
