Denmark and US Asked Difficult Questions over Spy Allegations

European countries have pressed the US and Denmark over reports the two worked together to spy on top European politicians, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Danish broadcaster DR said Denmark's Defence Intelligence Service (FE) collaborated with the US National Security Agency (NSA) to gather information from 2012 to 2014.

"A case was established at the Special State Prosecutor's Office and a pre-investigation process has been launched. More information and data cannot be disclosed in order to protect the criminal proceedings," the Special Prosecutor's Office told BIRN.

"There is evidence … that part of the documentation was destroyed - files on secret data collection made without a previous decision in accordance with the law," Vuksic told the daily newspaper Vijesti.

US Intelligence Accuses Russia of Cyber-hacking

US intelligence agencies have said they believe Russia was behind the "serious" cyber compromise revealed in December.

In a joint statement, the intelligence bodies say they currently believe fewer than 10 US government agencies saw their data compromised, although other organisations and private companies outside of government were also affected.

The United States has filed a lawsuit against former US National Security Agency (NSA) aide Edward Snowden. According to the prosecution, his memoir violates the confidentiality agreements signed with him by the NSA and the CIA, BTA reports.

In 2013, Snowden revealed classified documents for mass monitoring of communications and the Internet in the United States.
