Albanian Activists Commemorate Anniversary of Theatre’s Demolition
Activists and civil society groups gathered on Monday at the square of the National Theatre in Tirana to commemorate the controversial demolition of the building a year before, announcing another protest at 6pm.
Why a Theatre’s Demolition Has Sparked Outrage in Albania
Critics say the demolition of the National Theatre is an old project of Prime Minister Edi Rama, since the time when he was Culture Minister in 1998 and proposed to build a tower in its place and incorporate the theatre inside.
The renewed bid to demolish the theatre divided artists and activists, and raised concerns among anti-corruption and heritage watchdogs.

Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said on Monday on Facebook that he will soon present a project for a new national threatre - which has been prepared by a "famous international studio" and is part of an "inspiring initiative for Public-Private Partnership".
Dance company "Izena no kai" to perform in Belgrade Oct 23
BELGRADE - The Japanese dance company "Izena no kai" will perform at the National Theater in Belgrade, the Japanese Embassy in Belgrade announced Tuesday.
"Izena no kai" was founded in 1988.
Since then, they have performed many times in Japan and around the world, always bringing the atmosphere of Okinawa and the Amami Islands onto the stage.
