The ecosystem in Turkish waters may be protected from invasive and poisonous lionfish by consuming them as food, a study has suggested.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is preparing a draft law on water management of the country, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on July 5.

"We are preparing a 'Water Law' in the parliament in order to reach our targets faster and to prevent conflicts in water management," Erdoğan said, speaking at an opening ceremony of water facilities in the capital Ankara.

Drought caused by climate change and the decrease in precipitation have affected the basin of Lake Van, the water sources, agriculture and animal husbandry in the region, experts have warned.

"Heat rose, while precipitation decreased in the last decade," Faruk Alaeddinoğlu, a professor from Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, told state-run Anadolu Agency.

Climatologists have been warning about these extremes for months due to climate change, but the question also arises as to whether all these extremes are common for June.

Brussels – The European Environment Agency (EEA) has launched the city air quality viewer, which has taken data from two Slovenian cities, Ljubljana and Maribor. The latest data show that the Slovenian capital is plagued by poor air quality, whereas the situation is a bit better in Slovenia’s second largest city.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to announce on Wednesday (2 June) the details of a project which aims to transform the island of Astypalaia in the southeastern Aegean Sea into Europe's "Green Island".

The objective is to have all of Astypalaia's daily activities run on renewable energy, from electricity to transport.

The first integrated Circular Economy Center in Romania, with the main objective of supporting the needs of people in difficulty, was opened on June 1 in Bucharest, informs the initiator of the project, the Eco-Sustainable Association, in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

The National Forest Fund registered an increase of approximately 0.2% in 2020, compared to the previous year, while the volume of harvested wood increased by 4%, according to data published on National Institute of Statistics (INS). As of December 31, 2020, the forest fund area was 6,604,206 hectares (+11,976 hectares as compared to 2019), of which the forest area totaled 6,449,417 hectares.
