Sports Digest: Petrounias favorite for Worlds gold
GYMNASTICS: Olympian Lefteris Petrounias made it six out of six this year in the rings winning at the Challenge Cup in Paris with what he claimed was a performance equal to what gave him the gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics last year. He has remained unbeaten since and is the favorite for gold in the upcoming World Championship.

Iraqi national arrested for vandalizing tram ticket machines
A 30-year-old Iraqi national has been arrested in the Athens suburb of Nea Smyrni on Wednesday after he damaged two ticket machines at a local tram stop.
He faces charges of vandalizing public property and resisting arrest, police said on Thursday.
Panionios beats Gorica in Slovenia too
Panionios triumphed 3-2 at Gorica on Thursday to go through to the third qualifying round of the Europa League with a 5-2 aggregate score.
The Nea Smyrni team traveled to Slovenia armed with the 2-0 home win from the first leg, and scored three times in the first half from four chances it got against a wobbly defense.

Sports Digest: Panionios to face Shirak or Gorica
SOCCER: In the second qualifying round of the Europa League Panionios will face the winner of the first-round tie between Shirak of Armenia and Gorica of Slovenia, according to the draw that took place on Monday. The Nea Smyrni team's games are scheduled on July 13 and 20, with the first leg taking place in Greece.

Athens man arrested for firing gunshots off his balcony
A man was detained Friday afternoon after repeatedly firing an air gun off his balcony in the densely populated Athens suburb of Nea Smyrni.
Neighbors alerted the police and officers subsequently entered the man's apartment and disarmed him. According to sources, the man appeared to be in a livid state though it remained unclear why.
