5th Athens Half Marathon kicks off

The 5th Athens Half Marathon kicked off at 9pm on March 20 in the heart of Athens, at Syntagma Square, in front of the Greek Parliament, with more than 18,000 runners taking part.

The Athens Half Marathon event includes three (3) different races with timing services and one (1) more with no timing services for athletes with disabilities and athletes of Special Olympics.

Athens welcomes Christmas on Tuesday

Athens mayor Giorgos Kaminis on Tuesday will give the signal for the official illumination of the capital of Greece, inaugurating the holiday season.

The ceremony will begin at 17:30 when two sections of the Athens Municipality Wind Instrument Philharmonic Orchestra will set off from National Resistance Square (formerly Kotzias) and Monastiraki metro station.

Group of Popular Fighters claim responsibility for gun attack on Israeli Embassy

A terrorist organization calling itself the Group of Popular Fighters has claimed responsibility for an attack on the Israeli embassy in Athens in December.

An unidentified man called at the Efimerida ton Suntakton newspaper late Tuesday to say that a statement, recorded on a memory stick, had been left inside a garbage bin in Nea Smyrni, south of Athens.

SDOE raids continue over holiday season

The number of inspectors dispatched by Greece’s Financial Police (SDOE) to check whether businesses are complying with the law over the holiday season has been increased, with the first round of the raids over the week before and during Christmas revealing that the majority of law breakers did not issue sales receipts or employed workers who were uninsured.
