Bojan Kumer, the minister of environment, climate and energy, has sparked controversy by saying there will be nothing wrong if the timeline for a new unit at Slovenia's sole nuclear power station is delayed.

Krško – The Krško Nuclear Power Station (NEK) was shut down as a precaution on Tuesday after a powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit near the town of Petrinja, Croatia, shortly after midday. Such a shutdown is standard procedure in the event of a strong earthquake, NEK told the STA. NEK is located some 80 kilometres north-west of Petrinja.

The debate on a second reactor gained momentum in August as PM Marjan Šarec visited NEK, the only N-plant and one of the biggest electricity producers in Slovenia, unequivocally supporting the country's nuclear energy future.

SOFIA (Bulgaria), August 9 (SeeNews) - S&P Global Ratings said on Thursday that it has raised its long-term issuer credit rating on Bulgaria's National Electricity Company, NEK, to 'B+' from 'B' with stable outlook.

The government has approved EUR 601,617,133 from the budget surplus to be allocated as state assistance to the National Electric Company (NEK).

The funds must be used by the state venture to pay Russian Atomstroyexport for the equipment ordered for the Belene NPP.
