Greek agencies release footage of raid on drug ring sending pills to Islamic State jihadists (photos-videos)

The Greek financial crime unit (SDOE) released video footage and photos of Greek enforcement agencies raiding a compound in the area of Loutropyrgos, located 30km northwest of Athens, where they confiscated 635,000 amphetamine based pills planned to be shipped to Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq.

The financial crimes unit (SDOE) announced on Friday that it had discovered a lab producing large quantities of fenethylline, a synthetic drug reported to be widely used for recreational purposes in the Middle East as well as by fighters in Syria to boost their courage on the battlefield, where it is known by the brand name Captagon.

Suspect questioned over 2.2 kilos of opium paste

An investigating magistrate was Monday questioning a 26-year-old Iranian man who was arrested on the weekend on drug smuggling charges.

Officers were acting on a tip-off when they apprehended the suspect while he was riding in a taxi in Athens and allegedly found 2.2 kilograms of opium paste - one of the key ingredients in heroin - hidden in cardboard cylinders.

Gang of drug dealers arrested; 26,000 euros confiscated

A drug-dealing ring that was active in the center of Athens was unraveled on Monday, with police arresting six gang members - five Albanian nationals, aged 25, 27, 29, 36 and 47 and one Greek woman, 20.

Police confiscated more than 26 kilos of cannabis, a pistol, 26,000 euros and two cars after raids in homes and cars in the districts of Kypseli and Neos Cosmos.
