Bakoyannis says TV license auction unconstitutional

New Democracy heavyweight Dora Bakoyannis on Monday slammed a government auction of four private nationwide TV licenses as an unconstitutional effort by Greece's left-led government to deflect public attention from economic failures.

"[The government]… is trying to direct public attention away from pension cuts and tax hikes," the conservative MP told Alpha radio.

It has only been a few months since Kyriakos Mitsotakis was elected leader of New Democracy even though pundits had him pegged as an outsider. A part of the conservative old guard has been unable to accept his victory. Maybe it's a generational thing, a feeling that Mitsotakis's advancement will relegate the previous generation to portraits on the walls at party headquarters.

Mitsotakis demands answers over change to law on politicians and offshore firms

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis has called on the government to explain itself over an amendment included in the recent multi-bill, which removes the blanket ban on politicians and public officials being involved in offshore firms.

"We are asking why the government did this," he told ANT-1 TV. "They should explain who this provision is for."

Mitsotakis slams Tsipras, sticks by election, growth calls

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis repeated on Saturday his call for snap elections and launched another stinging attack on Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

"He is an opportunist that will do whatever he can to remain in power and cannot be trusted in Greece and abroad," Mitsotakis told a meeting of New Democracy's political committee.
