Mitsotakis says Greeks can ‘claim a better future’ as he receives government mandate

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis described his re-election as prime minister a "special honor" that will provide him with a four-year horizon to implement reforms, in a meeting with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday morning.

Official election results delivered to Parliament head

The official results of June 25 election was delivered on Monday morning to the House Speaker, Konstantinos Tassoulas, by the acting Minister of the Interior, Kalliopi Spanou.

After a brief meeting at Parliament, Tassoulas will head to the Presidential Palace to deliver the results to the President, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Greece's conservative New Democracy party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis vowed to speed up reforms following his landslide victory Sunday in the country's second election in five weeks that granted him a comfortable parliamentary majority to form a government for a second four-year term.

Mitsotakis to receive mandate on Monday morning

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou is expected to present Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the formal mandate to form a government on Monday morning after his New Democracy party's resounding victory on Sunday night.

Mitsotakis is expected at the Presidential Palace in central Athens at 11 a.m. and will be sworn in as prime minister for his second term in office at 1 p.m.

Greek conservatives storm to victory in repeat election

Greece's conservative New Democracy party stormed to victory in a parliamentary election on Sunday with voters giving reformist Kyriakos Mitsotakis another four-year term as prime minister.

With 91% of votes counted, center-right New Democracy was leading with 40.5% the vote and 158 seats in the 300-seat Parliament, Interior Ministry figures showed.
