International donors agreed to release $280 million in aid to Afghanistan, the World Bank has said, after repeated warnings that more than half the population face "acute" food shortages this winter.

Authorities in Afghanistan on Aug. 18 confirmed over 60 people were killed and nearly 200 injured in late last night's suicide attack at a wedding in the capital Kabul.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at a bank close to the heavily protected U.S. embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul yesterday, killing at least five people and wounding eight, the interior ministry said.

The bomber hit the entrance to a Kabul Bank branch in the well-off area of Kabul, ministry spokesman Najib Danish said. He said at least five people had been killed and eight wounded.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said the blast occurred at the entrance to a Kabul Bank branch, not far from the embassy. There was no immediate word on casualties.
