Niarchos

Major thoroughfares will be sealed off on Saturday in the center of Athens and the suburb of Kallithea due to the "SNF Run - Running into the Future" races organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The measures will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 10.40 p.m. with major avenues, including Syngrou, Vassileos Georgiou, Vassileos Alexandrou and Kallirois closed to traffic.

A lively weekend awaits at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center as the Summer Nostos Festival continues with lots more free stuff for kids, teens and adults alike. On Saturday from 7.30 p.m. eight bands comprising girls aged 8-12 - participants in the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls - will be performing rock covers. That will be followed at 10.15 p.m.

Grammy nominated, neo-folk artist Lianne La Havas will be performing at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's (SNFCC) Summer Nostos Festival on Friday, June 22. Awarded the iTunes Album of the Year in 2012 and two Grammy nominations, La Havas promises an atmosphere-packed live show, starting at 10 p.m. Admission is free of charge.

Filmmakers Sam Green and Joe Bini present a "live documentary" on the Kronos Quartet, the Grammy-winning American strings ensemble founded in 1973 which boasts more than 1.5 million record sales.

Circus performers will be at different locations of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center from 6.30 p.m. every day from Sunday, June 17, to Sunday, June 24, entertaining visitors with weird and wonderful tricks and stunts. Admission to the park is free of charge and there's a free shuttle bus that runs between the SNFCC and Syntagma Square via the Fix metro station.  


Brazilian songwriter and singer Seu Jorge is accompanied by the Athens State Orchestra in a special tribute to David Bowie, with selected songs by the late, great artist that Jorge performed, in Portuguese, in the Wes Anderson film "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou." American Ballet Theater Studio Company, the highest rung on the ABT training ladder, is a classical ensemble of 12 dancers and is coming to Athens for a show at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's Summer Nostos Festival on Sunday, June 17. The show at the opera house stage starts at 8.30 p.m.

The inauguration of the 10th installment of the Ibero-American Literature Festival in Athens (LEA) - aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue between Greece and the countries of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America - takes place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) on Saturday, June 9. The event will start at 7 p.m.

More than 10,000 people showed up on Saturday evening at the Great Lawn of the park in Faliro Athens by the seaside to dance and sing with their favorite Greek band.
