Jazz Chronicles | Athens | September 9 & 10

A tribute to the contemporary Greek jazz scene, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center's Jazz Chronicles is a series of concerts that reflects the diversity of the genre. On Saturday, September 9, the program presents American saxophonist Craig Handy and his Greek counterpart, Yannis Kassetas, both counting five albums under the belts so far.

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras and French President Emmanuel Macron have arrived at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation where a closed meeting with members of the Greek and French business community is scheduled to take place. Mr. Tsipras showed Mr. Macron around the Foundation premises while both politicians walked up to the emblematic lighthouse.

The contribution made by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to Greek society is truly impressive and commendable. Without fanfare and the usual vulgar displays of wealth associated with many representatives of the country's business elite, the Niarchos Foundation is doing extremely important work in crucial sectors, with sizable donations and initiatives.

Sydney Pollack's Oscar-winning 1985 romantic drama "Out of Africa," about a Danish baroness who discovers the pleasures of a simpler life and a better man than her husband, will be screened for free at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation on Friday, September 8, as part of its Park Your Cinema initiative. The screening starts at 8.30 p.m.
