Greek, Turkish Cypriot leaders to discuss ways to end conflict

Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades will meet newly elected Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Ak?nc? on May 2 to push stalled peace talks forward, a Greek Cypriot government spokesman said on April 28.

Nikos Christodoulides also said the Greek Cypriot community was poised to announce "unilateral confidence building measures" towards Turkish Cypriots. 

Anastasiades, Akinci speak and look towards fresh push in peace talks

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades has spoken to the new Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci with a view to restarting reunification talks after Sunday?s run-off elections in the occupied part of the island.

Anastasiades and Akinci affirmed their commitment to the island?s reunification, the Cypriot president?s office said on Sunday night.

A United Nations envoy says halted talks on reunifying ethnically divided Cyprus will resume after a clash over the island's potential offshore gas riches has subsided.

Espen Barth Eide told reporters Tuesday that Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu agreed to resume talks after an April 19 Turkish Cypriot leadership election.
