Cyprus president urges probe into airline bidding

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday called for an investigation into the Cyprus Airways bidding process, saying he will resign if it is found that he influenced the process in any way.

The move comes after press allegations accused his ex-law firm of representing bidder Ryanair in the state sale of Cyprus Airways.

Greek FM starts 3-day trip to Turkey on Saturday

Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos starts a two-day visit to Turkey on Saturday for talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Venizelos, who is also Greece’s deputy premier, is further scheduled to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The visit comes amid tension over energy spoils in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Biden briefs Anastasiades about talks in Istanbul

US Vice President Joe Biden has affirmed Washington’s commitment to the reunification of Cyprus as a bizonal, bicommunal federation, urging both sides on the divided island to resume UN-brokered talks.

The comments were made late Sunday as Biden called Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades to brief him about his talks with Turkish leaders in Istanbul.

Talks are expected to focus on the Cyprus issue and developments in the eastern Mediterranean region.
