The president of Cyprus said Friday that he's in touch with the leaders of Egypt, Israel, Greece and Lebanon to formulate joint diplomatic action aimed at countering a Turkey-Libya maritime border deal that they say flouts international law and ratchets up regional tensions.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades expressed disappointment on Monday after Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Ankara will not negotiate a peace settlement for the island unless the issue of political equality between Greek and Turkish Cypriots is first clarified.

Cyprus hopes to restart reunification talks that fell apart in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana, the island country's Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides said in an interview with Kathimerini on Sunday, adding however that a fresh round of negotiations can only take place after a Turkish commitment to refrain from "violations and provocations" in the region.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias marked 30 years since the fall of the wall that divided East and West Berlin on Saturday, adding that the time has come to end the 45-year division of Cyprus.

Cyprus' president is pledging to revoke any passports that were "mistakenly" granted to wealthy investors who were found to have committed wrongdoing.

President Nicos Anastasiades says "errors" may have been made in granting such "golden passports" under an earlier, less-strict version of a lucrative investment program.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has said the Mediterranean island will "not waver under threats" and continue efforts to reach a peace settlement.
"We will not waver under threats and we will continue to fight for the issue," Anastasiades said after being awarded with an honorary law degree from the Law School of Thessaloniki's Aristotle University on Thursday.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis received Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades in Athens on Wednesday to coordinate their stance ahead of the latter's upcoming discussions with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a bid to resume talks to reunify the island.

The Cyprus problem is not a bilateral but a European and international issue, while a peace settlement must fulfill all the conditions of the acquis communautaire, Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos has said.

President Nicos Anastasiades has stressed that the Republic of Cyprus is determined to proceed with its energy plans and to make good use of the gas reserves that have been discovered as a source of regional economic cooperation, growth and prosperity.
