Historians Mazower, Kalyvas among luminaries to join 'Greece 2021' committee

Historians Mark Mazower and Stathis Kalyvas are among several eminent academics who will join a committee that will oversee preparations to mark the bicentenary of the 19th-century revolt against Ottoman Turkey that led to the creation of the modern Greek state, it emerged on Wednesday.

Cyprus 'golden passports' to be revoked if wrongdoing found

Cyprus' president is pledging to revoke any passports that were "mistakenly" granted to wealthy investors who were found to have committed wrongdoing.

President Nicos Anastasiades says "errors" may have been made in granting such "golden passports" under an earlier, less-strict version of a lucrative investment program.

Mitsotakis to meet Guterres, Anastasiades, Mondi on Thursday

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' program in New York on Thursday begins with a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at 9.40 a.m. (local time).

He will then meet with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and at 12.30, he will meet with India's counterpart Narendra Modi.

Anastasiades and Akinci willing to meet in New York

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci reportedly expressed their readiness Friday to resume talks in New York next month along with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The two men held an informal meeting Friday at the residence of the UN's special representative Elizabeth Spehar in the United Nations buffer zone in Nicosia.
