Cyprus’ new police chief apologizes over serial killer case

Cyprus' new police chief has apologized to the families of seven foreign women and girls who an army captain has confessed to killing.
Kypros Michailides said at a ceremony Tuesday to mark his appointment that he offered the apology because police had failed to protect the victims.
He said those who failed will be held accountable.

Cyprus police chief reportedly sacked

Cypriot media reports say President Nicos Anastasiades sacked the island's police chief after their meeting on Friday morning over the response to the killings of seven foreign women and girls.

The meeting between Zacharias Chrysostomou and Anastasiades came on the heels of Justice Minister Ionas Nicolaou's resignation over the case on Thursday.

Cyprus President meets May in London

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades met with British Prime Minister Theresa May in London Tuesday. It is reported that the two discussed the latest developments with regards to efforts to resume negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
A Downing Street spokesperson said that May "expressed hope that progress would be made towards the resumption of talks."
