Romanian national detained in Cyprus; family, employer apply for consular assistance

Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) has reported that a Romanian national, a sailor on a ship in the port of Vassilikos, Cyprus, has been detained by the Cypriot authorities. According to a MAE press statement, the Romanian Embassy in Nicosia was notified on Tuesday about this fact.

Only civilian woman living in Cyprus’ buffer zone dies at 104

Elsie Slonim, the only civilian woman living in a buffer zone in the largest city of divided Cyprus, has died at the age of 104, according to a statement by Turkish Cypriot police authorities.

Having lived a life of adventures for more than a century, Slonim died from a respiratory failure at her house next to the Turkish military unit on the Dereboyu border in Nicosia.

Silk Oil joins Petrolina group of companies

Troubled oil importer and retailer Silk Oil has been acquired by Cypriot group Petrolina, the latter announced on Tuesday.

Petrolina (Holdings) Public Ltd stated that its new 100% owned subsidiary P.W. Bunkering Services (East Med) Ltd proceeded on December 31 to the acquisition of 100% of Silk Oil's share capital, in the context of the Cypriot group's further expansion in Greece.
