Cameroon soldiers clashed with Boko Haram fighters in the border town of Fotokol on Feb. 4 as the Islamists fled an offensive by Chad's army, security sources said.
 

Nigeria's military on Feb. 1 repelled a Boko Haram assault on the key city of Maiduguri as violence raged across the country's northeast just two weeks before national elections.

A bombing at a bus station in Gombe city in northeast Nigeria killed at least 20 people on Dec. 22, the latest violence in the region repeatedly targeted by Boko Haram, the Red Cross said.        

Boko Haram has kidnapped at least 185 people, including women and children, from a Nigerian village, carting the hostages away on trucks towards Sambisa Forest, a notorious rebel stronghold, two local officials and a vigilante leader said Dec. 18.
