EU Red Sea operation HQ to be in Larissa

Greece, and the Hellenic European Union Operations Headquarters (EL EU OHQ) in particular, will be the headquarters of the EU operation for the safety of navigation in the Red Sea, after a relevant proposal by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias was accepted by his counterparts at the informal ministerial meeting of the EU in Brussels.

Greece proposes command of EU naval mission in Red Sea

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said on Wednesday that Greece will propose taking command of a forthcoming EU naval mission in the Red Sea aimed at safeguarding ships from attacks by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militia. He further mentioned that the military base in Larissa, located in central Greece, could serve as the operational headquarters for this mission.

Greece in talks with the US for co-production of frigates

Greece is in talks with the US to co-produce US-designed Constellation-class frigates, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said on Monday.
 
"We are discussing with the US the joint design and co-production of the new generation of Constellation frigates," Dendias said after a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart, Vasilis Palmas in Athens.
 

Armed Forces must be modernized, defense minister stresses

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias reiterated on Wednesday that Greece's Armed Forces must be modernized, as the world has entered "a completely new era."

Speaking to Action 24 TV he said the war in Ukraine, Gaza, the Caucasus, the wider conflicts in the region, "now show us that war is being fought in a different way compared to the past."

Funeral held for Hellenic Air Force pilot following training jet crash

A Hellenic Air Force pilot, 40-year-old Epameinondas Kosteas, who lost his life in a crash involving his T-2 Buckeye training jet near Kalamata airbase in the Peloponnese, was laid to rest on Friday. 

The funeral took place in the village of Megali Mantineia, Messinia, in the southwestern Peloponnese.
