Basketball legend honored at friendly game
The legend of Greek basketball, Nikos Galis, received a standing ovation from thousands of fans in the Athens Olympics Stadium complex (OAKA) in northern Athens.
Before the start of the friendly match between Greece and Slovenia, Nikos Galis' jersey with the number 4 was raised up high above the court.

Nikos Galis, legendary Greek basketball player, awarded honorary doctorate in sports
Τhe Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on Tuesday presented legendary Greek basketball player Nikos Galis with an honorary doctorate in sports for his contributions to sports, culture, and society.
Galis is credited with raising interest in basketball among the Greek public and inspiring younger generations to take up the sport.
Mural of basketball legend Galis defaced
A mural in central Athens depicting Greek basketball legend Nikos Galis was repaired by the artist over on Saturday after being defaced by unknown vandals.
It is the second time in just a few days that the mural, which is on the wall of a sports club opposite the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) in central Athens, has been targeted.

Costas Politis, who led Greece to basketball glory in 1987, dies
Costas Politis, the coach of the Greek national team that won the European Basketball Championship in 1987, died on Monday morning after suffering from deteriorating health. He was 76.
Politis became coach of the national side in 1982 and led Greece to 10th place at the World Cup in Spain in 1986. It was the best showing for the Greeks at an international level.
Basketball legend Galis denies he will run in next elections
Greek basketball legend Nick Galis on Tuesday rebuffed speculation about him running on conservative New Democracy's ticket in the next elections.
In a post on his Facebook page that attracted thousands of "likes" in the space of a few hours, Galis said he would "not be on the ticket of any party."
