The Nobel Foundation on Sept. 2 withdrew its invitation for representatives of Russia, Belarus and Iran to attend this year's Nobel Prize award ceremonies after the decision announced a day earlier "provoked strong reactions."

The Nobel Prize for chemistry has been awarded to German scientist Benjamin List of the Max Planck Institute and Scotland-born scientist David W.C. MacMillan of Princeton University.

The Nobel Prize in the field of physiology or medicine has been awarded to U.S.-based scientists David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian.

They were cited for their discovery of receptors for temperature and touch.

According to the Nobel Institute in Oslo, January 31 was the deadline for submitting nominations, 317 candidates were registered, including 210 distinguished individuals and 107 international organizations.

The Nobel Prize for Medicine for 2017 is given to three Americans - Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rossbach and Michael Jung for their molecular studies that control circadian systems, reports WebCafe. 

Hall and Rossbach work at Brandy University, while Michael Jung is from Rockefeller University.

Punters are putting their money on this year's Nobel Peace Prize going to Greek islanders who have opened their hearts and homes to hundreds of thousands of migrants crossing the Mediterranean.

The award will be announced Friday in Oslo, Norway, and as usual the Norwegian Nobel Committee isn't dropping any hints about its choice.

Tunisia's National Dialogue Quartet won the Nobel Peace Prize on  Oct. 9 for its contribution to building democracy after the Jasmine Revolution in 2011, the Nobel Committee said. 

The 2014 laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize Malala Yousafzay and Kailash Satyarthi received their awards from the Norwegian Nobel Committee at a ceremony held in Oslo City Hall on Wednesday.

Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai and India's Kailash Satyarthi have won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.

The Norwegian Committee said on its website they were receiving the prize "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education".
