THI helps NGO Stewards promote alternative ‘steward-ownership’ structure to ensure ‘profit serves purpose’

Thirteen of Greece's environmental NGOs are calling for the withdrawal of the proposed legislation for construction outside town zoning areas, presented earlier in the month by the Environment Ministry.

In a statement, the NGOs argue the proposed regulations will lead to uncontrolled construction in rural areas, with long-term consequences - not least for the environment. 

Education Minister Yusuf Tekin has defended the ministry's collaboration with religiously-affiliated communities, asserting that such entities were rightfully classified as nongovernmental organizations.

Ljubljana – The 8 March Institute has already collected enough signatures to introduce a bill aimed at repealing several government-sponsored laws that the NGO finds harmful. The campaign started on Wednesday and the minimum threshold of signatures, 5,000, was crossed already that day, said the NGO, which aims to get 60,000 signatures.

Ljubljana – The Legal Network for the Protection of Democracy has provided free legal aid to more than 1,200 people since it was established a year ago. The legal advocacy NGO has also been active when it comes to legislative amendments and appeals, the organisation said.
