A warning message from “112” was sent shortly after 5 p.m. to residents of Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thassos, Samothrace, Lemnos and Agios Efstratios for dangerous weather phenomena expected to “strike” from early Tuesday evening.

The Risk Assessment Committee convened today on the development of the “Atena” storm that has been affecting the country since yesterday.

A total of 372,495 tourists from Turkey visited the islands of the North Aegean since April this year, when the seven-day "visa express" was granted to nationals of the neighboring country, according to data from the General Police Directorate of the region on Thursday.

A number of regions in the country have been designated as having a very high risk of fire (Category 4) on Saturday, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The risk of fire will be very high (category 4) in large parts of the country on Tuesday, according to the relevant forecast map of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).

The regions designated as high-risk are colored orange on the map.

The Civil Protection Ministry issued a warning regarding a significant risk of fires in six regions of Greece on Sunday. 

A high risk fire alert is in effect for tomorrow, Friday June 28, 2024, the Ministry of Climate & Civil Protection says.
