Bulgarian Parliament Ratifies Agreement with US for Kozloduy NPP Technology

The Bulgarian Parliament has ratified the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the United States on cooperation regarding the construction of nuclear power at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site and the Nuclear Program for civil purposes of Bulgaria.

Hyundai wins Bulgaria parliament nod for nuclear reactor talks

South Korea's Hyundai Engineering and Construction won backing from Bulgaria's parliament on Friday to proceed with talks on building two nuclear reactors, beating out a bid from US firm Bechtel.

The two had been short-listed for the engineering, construction and commissioning of units 7 and 8 at the Kozloduy nuclear plant using Westinghouse's AP 1000 technology.

Incident at Kozloduy NPP - 2 People were Killed

Two workers were killed and two others were injured on December 16 in an incident at the construction site of a radioactive waste storage facility near Kozloduy NPP. One of the injured was transported to the hospital in Pleven, the other was examined and is already home.

The incident has nothing to do with radioactive and radiation safety. It is an incident at a construction site.

The Sixth Unit of Kozloduy NPP Will Receive a License for another 10 Years

Bulgaria's Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova will participate in the official granting of llicense for the operational life extension of sixth unit of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, the press office of the Ministry of Energy announced on September 30. The event will take place on October 1, 2019 at 1.30pm at the Nuclear Regulatory Agency building.

Bulgaria Extends Life of Reactor in Sole Nuclear Plant with Upgrade

An upgrade to a Soviet-era reactor in Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant has been completed, extending its lifespan until 2051, the Energy Ministry said on Wednesday.

The Kozloduy plant, located next to the river Danube on the border with Romania, has two 1,000 megawatt reactors that produce about 33 percent of Bulgaria's electricity.
