All Hydro- and Thermal Power Plant in Bulgaria Activated to Compensate for Turned off Reactor of Kozloduy NPP

The Bulgarian Electricity System Operator (ESO) has activated the replacement capacities of all thermal and hydro power plants in the country to compensate for the generation following the automatic shutdown of Unit 5 of the Kozloduy NPP at 1:16 am on 22 January 2021. The ESO ensures stable and uninterrupted functioning of the power generating system, the operator reported.

An incident  has caused an automatic shutdown of the reactor in Unit 5 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. MP of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms Ramadan Atalay confirmed the news during morning program on BNT.

"After the old reactors were pulled out of operation, it is very important that we received a license for the Units 5 and 6 of the Kozloduy NPP for another ten years", noted Borisov.

Nuke plant construction ‘continuing as planned’

The construction works for the first nuclear power plant of Turkey is continuing as planned and its first unit will start operations in 2023, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.

"In Akkuyu, things are running as planned," Dönmez said during a webinar organized by Sabancı Üniversity's Istanbul International Center for Energy and Climate (IICEC) yesterday.

An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts has completed a review of long term operational safety at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Romania. The Pre-SALTO (Safety Aspects of Long Term Operation) review mission was requested by the plant's operator, Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica SA.
