Louvre Abu Dhabi marks five years with major Impressionism show

A major exhibition of impressionist art opened on Oct. 12 at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, featuring works from masters such as Cezanne, Degas, Manet, Monet, Pissarro and Renoir.

Billed as one of the most significant exhibitions on the 19th century art movement ever held outside France, it features more than 150 works on loan from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

The Uffizi museum in Florence said on Oct. 10 it was suing French fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier for "unauthorized use" of Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus," its Italian Renaissance masterpiece.

Painted by Sandro Botticelli in the mid-1480s, it shows the nude goddess Venus standing on a giant scallop shell, covering her loins with her long blonde hair.

Christie’s to auction Allen’s $1bn-plus art collection

Christie's has announced plans to auction the art collection of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, which it estimated to be worth more than $1 billion.

The November sale of more than 150 pieces spanning 500 years of art will be "the largest and most exceptional art auction in history," Christie's said in a statement.
