Ljubljana – Nurses, staff at social care institutions and pharmacies went on strike this morning after yesterday’s negotiations brought no meaningful progress, neither a pay increase similar to a recently agreed one for doctors and dentists. Public broadcaster RTV Slovenija has reported that 50,000 staff would be on strike today.

Nursing staff reaches agreement with govt on pay rise
Ljubljana – Since hospitals are struggling with nursing staff shortages and trade unions have been warning that the situation has never been this bad, as many nurses quit their jobs, while those remaining are exhausted, an agreement has been reached about a pay rise for nurses. Media report the government has agreed to a 4-25% pay rise.
Bucharest Police question nurses, assistants over deadly Matei Bals hospital fire
Two nurses and two nursing assistants of the Matei Bals hospital who were on duty at the ward where a fire broke out that killed five patients were questioned on Friday at the Bucharest Police headquarters. According to lawyer for the Matei Bals hospital Constantin Durgeru, the two assistants tried to put out the fire and managed to stop the oxygen supply, avoiding an explosion.

Nursing staff of state-run hospitals will hold a four-hour work stoppage on Thursday to protest what it described as "divisionary" policies, their union POEDIN said on Wednesday.
Doctors, Nurses Question Greek Government’s Coronavirus Response
At the beginning of April, staff of the Sotiria Public Hospital in the Greek capital, Athens, issued an open letter complaining they had been supplied with "defective" masks to guard against infection from patients with COVID-19.
