China tariffs to remain in place pending review: US

The US government has confirmed it will continue enforcing the tariffs on Chinese goods imposed by former president Donald Trump, following hundreds of requests from American companies.    

President Joe Biden had been considering how and whether to remove some of the tariffs by his predecessor, amid pressure to offer some relief to soaring U.S. inflation.    

US intends to end preferential trade treatment for Turkey

The United States intends to end Turkey's preferential trade treatment under a program that allowed some exports to enter the United States duty free, the US Trade Representative's Office said on Monday.

Turkey is no longer eligible to participate in the Generalized System of Preferences program because it "is sufficiently economically developed," USTR said in a news release.

Trump Threatens to Pull US out of World Trade Organization

President Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw the US from the World Trade Organization (WTO), claiming it treats his country unfairly.

"If they don't shape up, I would withdraw from the WTO," Mr Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg News.

The WTO was established to provide rules for global trade and resolve disputes between countries.

Trade tensions between the United States and China heated up on Aug. 15 as Beijing warned that it "will not sit idle" if a U.S. probe into its intellectual property practices leads to sanctions.

U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to order the investigation comes on top of strains between the two nations over how to handle Beijing's ally North Korea.
