Parliament’s foreign affairs committee approves Sweden's NATO bid

The Turkish Parliament's foreign affairs committee on Tuesday gave the green light for Sweden's NATO membership.

Following the approval at the committee on Dec. 26, the protocol will now be submitted to the general assembly for a vote. Simple majority of the 600 lawmakers will suffice for the ratification of the bid.

‘Digital twins’ of cities to be prepared: Vice President

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay has announced that the officials are preparing "digital twins," a simulation project formed with images from drones to monitor all the 81 provinces.

Speaking at a council organized by the directorate general of geographic information systems, an affiliate of the Environment Ministry, Oktay introduced the project.

Exchange rate fluctuations not in line with economic realities: Vice president

Deputy President Fuat Oktay has defined the fluctuations in the exchange rate as "manipulation" and accused some circles of acting against Turkey.

"These manipulation attempts have an increasing cost not only on us but also on those who direct it," Oktay said, speaking at the General Assembly of the parliament, where he presented the 2022 budget.

Turkey is taking all measures to prevent an oil slick from Syria from spreading to the Karpas coast of Northern Cyprus, the Turkish vice president said on Aug. 30.

"We are taking the necessary measures by mobilizing every means available that we have without giving any chance to the spill to turn into an environmental disaster," Fuat Oktay told Anadolu Agency.

Turkey expects improvement in current deficit, inflation in H2

Officials in Turkey forecast improvements in the country's current deficit and inflation rate thanks to measures that have been taken, the Turkish vice president said on Aug. 23.

Speaking during a meeting of the country's Economic Coordination Council, Fuat Oktay said coordination between institutions was a necessity for a stronger and resilient economy.

Turkey’s vice president visits Northern Cyprus

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for a working visit on July 7.

According to diplomatic sources, he will hold official talks, examine the ongoing North Lefkosa Ring Road in Lefkosa, and restoration works in Bilal Agha Mosque, and meet citizens in Yenierenkoy and Bafra villages besides other engagements.
