Emergency traffic measures on Patra-Athens motorway due to weather conditions

Emergency traffic measures were implemented on the Patra-Athens highway on Saturday near Eliona, northern Peloponnese, due to anticipated hazardous weather conditions. 

Specifically, traffic towards Athens is being redirected for precautionary reasons, using a bidirectional flow on the Patras-bound lane, reported the Greek operating company Olympia Odos.

Tolls by the mile a non-starter

Could precise mileage charging be the answer to big toll hikes? Two years after the troubled e-toll tender was cancelled, the question has been abandoned. The only concessionaire implementing a hybrid mileage charging system remains Olympia Odos, while the rest have turned to discount plans through their transceivers.

New year brings highway toll hike

Higher toll fees at toll stations, in both major and auxiliary roads, increased on Greek roads as of Monday, following earlier announcements by concessionaires. 

On Olympia Odos, the new fees implemented for vehicles affect the following highways: Patra-Athens, Antirrio-Ioannina, Corinth-Tripoli-Kalamata and the Lefktro-Sparta section, as well as the Rio-Antirrio bridge. 

Higher toll station fees take effect

In Olympia Odos, the new fees implemented for vehicles affect the following highways: Patras-Athens, Antirrio-Ioannina, Corinth-Tripolis-Kalamata and the Lefktro-Sparta section, as well as the Rio-Antirrio bridge.

Bridge collapse near Patra leaves one dead

A motorway bridge into Patra collapsed on Sunday leaving at least one dead, two people pinned under the rubble and seven injured, with at least one being seriously injured.

The bridge had structural problems in the past and was under repair since 2021. The Olympia Odos motorway had closed the road due to demolition works and there was no traffic on the bridge.

Traffic gridlock after car catches fire in Efpalinos tunnel

Long lines of traffic formed for several hours on Thursday morning, after a car caught fire inside the Efpalinos Tunnel in the direction leading to Corinth, forcing the tunnel's temporary closure. 

A video filmed by a car driver moving in the opposite direction and posted on a local news website showed smoke coming out of the tunnel and fire engines deployed at the scene.

Storm shuts down schools, roads; at least one dead

Schools in Attica will remain closed Monday until 10 a.m. due to problems raised by a storm, authorities say.

Heavy rain and debris have shut down both the Athens-Corinth highway, near Elefsina, and the old road connecting the two cities. Authorities say the highway to Athens is expected to open between 9-10 am, while the section to Corinth between 12-1 pm.

More trains scheduled for elections, toll charges waived for voters

The Hellenic Railways Organization's operating arm Trainose is to boost services on the Athens-Thessaloniki route between Thursday and Tuesday, May 28, in a bid to help those traveling to their constituencies to vote in Sunday's local authority and European Parliament elections.
