Hope ignited as countdown to Beijing Winter Olympics begins

February 4 marks one year to go. One year until the world's best winter athletes come together. We have all been given 365 days, and it is up to us to decide how we are going to use them. For me, it will be a year of hard work, focus, belief and the quest for perfection, because what awaits in Beijing 2022 will need a lot of work to be put in so as to stand out from the rest.

First World Cup team event win for Slovenia women’s ski jumpers

Ljubno ob Savinji – Slovenian women’s ski jumpers Ema Klinec, Špela Rogelj, Urša Bogataj in Nika Križnar won Saturday’s World Cup team event, in what is their first-ever team event win. The victory comes after they finished second at the same venue, in Slovenia’s Ljubno ob Savinji, in 2019 and 2020.

Sports minister suspends funding to sailing federation amid abuse probe

Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis announced on Tuesday he was suspending all funding to the Greek Sailing Federation and ordering an audit of its board members' assets, as part of an investigation into allegations of sexual assault, mismanagement and corruption by senior officials.

European Taekwondo Championship 2021 to Be Held in Sofia

The 2021 European Taekwondo Championship will be held in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia between April 8 and 11, Vadim Ivanov, the head coach of the Russian national taekwondo team, told TASS on Tuesday.

The championship was initially planned to be held in May, but was postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Artistic Gymnastics: Larisa Iordache, silver medal in vault event, at 2020 European Championships in Mersin

Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache won the silver medal in the vault event at the 2020 European Championships in Women's Artistic Gymnastics, in Mersin, Turkey, on Sunday. Iordache had vaults scored 14.200 and 13.550, her average score being 13.875. Zsofia Kovacs (Hungary) won the gold medal, with 14.050, after 14.350 in the first vault and 13.750 in the second.

Champion rhythmic gymnastics team visits sports minister

Turkish Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu welcomed the nation's first-ever gold medal-winning women's national rhythmic gymnastics team at his office on Dec. 1 in the capital Ankara. 

"It's a great pleasure for us to host you here," said Kasapoğlu. "You're in our ministry as champions."
