Turkish and Iraqi local military officials held a security meeting along the border, the Turkish Defense Ministry has announced, stressing that the two neighboring countries are cooperating to secure the border and citizens of the two nations.

Defense Minister Yaşar Güler has insisted that Turkish troops will remain in northern Iraq until the terror threat, particularly from the PKK, is eliminated.

"Everyone knows that Türkiye needs to move to another phase [in the fight against terrorism]," Güler said during a gathering with reporters in the capital Ankara on March 10.

Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın has paid a visit to Baghdad and discussed anti-terror cooperation and other security concerns with senior Iraqi officials, including Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid.

Türkiye's anti-terror strategy that aims to eradicate terrorists in their hide-outs in northern Syria and Iraq has succeeded and zeroed terrorist activities on Turkish soil, the defense minister has said, informing that 78 PKK members were neutralized in the Turkish army's strikes in retaliation to the PKK's recent attacks.

A security meeting with top Turkish officials chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday has ended, the Communications Directorate said in a statement posted on X.
The meeting came after nine Turkish soldiers were killed in a PKK terror attack in northern Iraq.

In a joint operation, the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and the Turkish army have "neutralized" a PKK terrorist identified as one of the perpetrators of the assassination of a Turkish diplomat in Iraq in 2019.

Turkish forces have conducted airstrikes on 71 PKK targets in northern Iraq and Syria, and "neutralized" 59 terrorists, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler has announced.

Türkiye will not allow a "terrorist structure" to form along its borders with Syria and northern Iraq, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Saturday, at an event in Istanbul.

His remarks came after six Turkish soldiers were killed and one was wounded in an attack by terrorists near the northern Iraqi border on Friday.

Senior Turkish and Iraqi authorities have underscored that bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and transportation through a common strategic vision will bring about regional prosperity and security during a high-level meeting in the Turkish capital.

They have agreed on a road map to be coordinated and implemented by the two sides' foreign ministries to this end.
