Commission 'warmly supports' independence of competition authorities, says spox
The European Commission "warmly supports" the independence of national competition authorities, an EU spokesperson said Tuesday, commenting on a phone call last week between Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager on a newly approved law that replaced the head of the Hellenic Competition Commission (HCC).
Large-scale retroactive crackdown on tax evasion
Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) plans to tighten its grip on tax evaders, with an increase in checks, even retrospectively, dating back to 2014.
In particular, and for the first time, it will cross-check supplier and customer declarations with the corresponding income and value-added tax declarations from 2014 onward.

United Kingdom withdraws British diplomatic corps from the EU
In an attempt to reinforce the message that the UK is leaving the EU by 31 October, the UK diplomats will stop attending regular meetings in Brussels, the Guardian reports.
London officials claim that this move is in line with Boris Johnson's first statement in the House of Commons, in which he said that he will "unshackle" Birtish diplomacy from EU affairs.

Head of National Revenue Agency Office in Lovech has been Fired
The director of NRA-Lovech Viktor Stoychev has been fired. The Revenue Agency press office said on August 6 that the dismissal was because of unauthorized access to the NRA information systems, reports BNT.
Stoychev was also a municipal councilor from the GERB group in the current term in office, from the civic quota, but left due to disagreement with the policy.
