Mild tremor hits Corfu
A magnitude 3.9 earthquake shook the Ionian island of Corfu on Friday morning, as reported by the Geodynamic Institute in Athens. No injuries or damage were reported.
The epicentre of the tremor, occurring at 6.29 a.m., was situated 34 kilometers southwest of Othonoi, a small uninhabited islet northwest of Corfu, at an estimated depth of 6.8 kilometers.

Rescuers try to evacuate hundreds from burning Italian ferry
A rescue operation is under way in high winds in Greek waters for an Italian ferry carrying 466 people that has caught fire, Greek officials said early Dec. 28.
Vessels close to the stricken "Norman Atlantic", located 33 nautical miles off the small Greek island of Othonoi, rushed to give assistance after picking up its distress signal, the Greek coast guard said.
