Othonoi

An agreement for the creation of waterdromes in Alexandroupoli and on the island of Samothrace was signed on Tuesday, Ellinika Ydatodromia (Greek Water Airports) has announced.

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake shook the Ionian island of Corfu on Friday morning, as reported by the Geodynamic Institute in Athens. No injuries or damage were reported. 

The epicentre of the tremor, occurring at 6.29 a.m., was situated 34 kilometers southwest of Othonoi, a small uninhabited islet northwest of Corfu, at an estimated depth of 6.8 kilometers.

Dozens of Greek and foreign tourists have been stranded since Saturday on three small islands off the coast of Corfu due to mechanical failure on the ferryboat connecting Mavraki, Areikousa and Othonoi to the bigger Ionian Sea island.

A cargo ship, believed to be transporting illegal migrants sent a distress signal near the Greek island of Corfu on Tuesday.

Greece is sending a navy frigate and a helicopter to locate a cargo ship believed to be carrying hundreds of migrants in the northern Ionian Sea after authorities received a distress call from someone on board the ship, authorities said.

A rescue operation is under way in high winds in Greek waters for an Italian ferry carrying 466 people that has caught fire, Greek officials said early Dec. 28.
      
Vessels close to the stricken "Norman Atlantic", located 33 nautical miles off the small Greek island of Othonoi, rushed to give assistance after picking up its distress signal, the Greek coast guard said.
