Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor addressed a ceremony on Tuesday remembering the 1989 Operation North, a police campaign which prevented a Serbian nationalist rally in Ljubljana and is thus seen as one of the first steps in Slovenia towards the country eventually declaring independence. In his speech, Pahor warned against politicisation of police today.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has congratulated Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on his re-election. He wished him a lot of success in performing important tasks, Pahor’s office said in a press release on Monday.

The presidents also discussed the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed the importance of efforts by both Slovenia and Bulgaria to raise vaccination rates.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor attended a session of the Judicial Council on Thursday, focussing on the passing of the 2022 budget bill, which cuts funding to some independent state institutions. Pahor said the way in which budget funding had been reduced could be seen as efforts to weaken these institutions.

Luxembourg – President Borut Pahor is starting a two-day working visit to Luxembourg on Sunday to meet several senior officials, including Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, and Grand Duke Henri. The visit is designed to intensify political dialogue and cooperation, Pahor’s office said before the visit.

Paris – President Borut Pahor bestowed the Golden Order of Merit, one of the highest Slovenian state decorations, on Czech-French writer Milan Kundera in Paris on Saturday. Kundera was honoured for having raised his voice for Slovenia’s independence and for his outstanding contribution to understanding turbulent times in Europe.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor addressed a meeting of foreign diplomats accredited to Slovenia on Friday, calling for strengthening the EU’s unity and stability.

The meeting of the diplomatic corps was hosted by the corps’s doyen Jean-Marie Speich, the apostolic nuncio to Slovenia, to mark the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence and its second presidency of the EU.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has turned to Slovenian citizens as the epidemiological situation is deteriorating, urging them to get vaccinated and comply with coronavirus restrictions, including the convalescent-vaccinated-tested (PCT) rule.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor told the news portal N1 on Saturday that in his capacity as president he had neither the right nor the competence nor the duty to say that enough is enough in the current tense situation. The president does not have the power to decide on the fate of the government, he noted.

Ljubljana – The presidents of Slovenia and Italy, Borut Pahor and Sergio Mattarella, will visit Nova Gorica and Gorizia, the cities on each side of the Slovenian-Italian border, next Thursday to hail their title as the 2025 European Capital of Culture. On the occasion Pahor will decorate Mattarella with Slovenia’s top state honour.

Ljubljana – Reporter magazine argues in Monday’s commentary that President Borut Pahor was wrong to receive Zoran Stevanović, a leader of the protests against the Covid pass mandate. The meeting gave Stevanović legitimacy and earned Pahor contempt from both left and right, the commentator says in Legitimacy.
