Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Road Transport Corridor begins operation

A welcoming ceremony was held on Oct. 8 by the Turkish Trade Ministry in Istanbul after the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Road Transport Corridor Project successfully carried commercial cargo on Pakistani trucks to Turkey. 

The trucks departed Sept. 27 from Karachi and reached the Turkish metropolitan city of Istanbul on Thursday, covering 5,300 kilometers (3,293 miles).

Pakistan honors 2 Turkish citizens with top civilian awards

Pakistan's president conferred Pakistan's top civil awards upon two Turkish dignitaries at a special ceremony in Istanbul on Aug. 15.

Arif Alvi conferred Sitara-e-Imtiaz upon Selami Kılıç and Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam upon Prof. Celal Soydan in recognition of their outstanding services to Pakistan.

Turkey, Pakistan joint military exercise ends

A three-week joint military exercise involving Turkish and Pakistani special forces ended on Feb. 20.

The closing ceremony of the drill ATATÜRK-XI 2021 was held at the Pakistani military's Special Service headquarters in Tarbela, northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkwa province, which borders neighboring Afghanistan, said a statement from the Pakistan Army.

Pakistan hit by nationwide power blackout

Power was gradually being restored to major cities across Pakistan on Jan. 10 after it was hit by a massive electricity blackout, officials said.

The electricity distribution system in the nation of more than 210 million people is a complex - and delicate - web, and a problem in one section of the grid can lead to cascading breakdowns countrywide.
