A new banquet hall with stunning frescoes inspired by the Trojan War has been unearthed by archaeologists in Pompeii, the ancient city destroyed and buried under ash by the explosion of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 in southern Italy. According to experts, the recently uncovered frescoes are among the greatest to have emerged at the renowned archaeological site.

France protesters defy bans to rally against police violence

Around 2,000 people defied a ban to join a memorial rally in central Paris Saturday for a young black man who died in police custody, while marches took place throughout France to denounce police brutality, as tensions run high after days of rioting engulfed the country.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games flame will be lit on April 16, marking the countdown to the July 26-Aug. 11 event in the French capital, organisers said on Friday, confirming an earlier Reuters story.

The flame will be lit at Greece's ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Games, and will remain in the country until its departure to France from Athens on April 27.
