Long-term care, de-bureaucratisation bills coming to plenary session

Ljubljana – The National Assembly is meeting for the October plenary session on Monday to debate at first reading an omnibus bill on de-bureaucratisation and a long-awaited long-term care bill. Changes to pharmacy legislation and to the law on police work and organisation are also on the MPs’ agenda.

Bulgaria: Constitutional Court Ruled against Suspension of PM Boyko Borissov's Government by 45th National Assembly

The National Assembly may not suspend the implementation of powers of other branches of government, the Constitutional Court said on Tuesday. The judgment was rendered in connection with a moratorium imposed by the 45th National Assembly on the work of the then outgoing government of prime minister Boyko Borissov.

Albanian Parliament Goes Online to Curb Virus, Opposition Cries Foul

The Socialist Party-controlled parliamentary administration offered MPs laptops for free on Thursday as it announced that parliamentary committee debates will now be held online, following a recommendation by the Committee of Experts, a body that advises the government on measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

National Assembly Voted: Presidential Elections will be held on November 14

Without any debate, parliament accepted the proposal that the presidential election be held on November 14, 2021. The date was voted as the first item in the session that began this morning.

The proposal of the Presidential Council yesterday was the date to be November 7 or 14.

BSP and GERB said they prefer the 7th to avoid a run-off on the last possible election date.

Chief Prosecutor Geshev Refused to Attend Hearing in Parliament on Police Brutality

Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev commented for BTA on the intention stated by MPs to request his hearing within the extraordinary sitting of parliament scheduled for Tuesday.

According to him there is a long-standing practice of the Constitutional Court, which excludes the exercise of parliamentary control over the work of specific magistrates and during pending cases.

Tangible Pay Cuts for MPs To Be Discussed in Parliament

The ad hoc committee that drafts the Rules of Procedure of the new parliament will discuss a tangible pay cuts for MPs. Some of the proposals provide for the resumption of blitz control of the executive in the plenary. Reducing the monthly salaries of MPs from three salaries to one average gross salary in budget sector, or BGN 1570, is the proposal of "Rise up BG! We're Coming."
