Bosnia and Herzegovina held its ninth general elections on 2 October 2022.

Bosnia and Herzegovina completed the formation of a state-level government on Wednesday, several months after the October 2022 general elections, with the approval of the new Council of Ministers led by Borjana Kristo, vice-president of the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, the main Bosnian Croat party. 

After leaving the building, SDA presidency member Alma olo said that no agreement had been reached, that everything else was up for discussion.

According to the local media, they should discuss the possibility of unblocking the work of this body and scheduling a session after almost three and a half months.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will be suspended from the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the PACE, for failing to appoint new representatives to that body.

According to the Council of Europe's Rules, member states must nominate new delegations to the Parliamentary Assembly within six months of the day of an election.

Bosnia's embattled ruling coalition, comprising the Party of Democratic Action, SDA, the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, the Alliance for Better Future of Bosnia, SBB, and the Serbian Democratic Party, SDS, has lost the support of another two MPs in the state parliament.

The main Bosnian Serb party, the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, SNSD, has threatened to block the work of Bosnia's long-awaited new state government, the Council of Ministers, which is holding its first session on Tuesday.
 

Western powers may take sanctions against the Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, after his party, the Alliance of Social Democrats, SNSD, blocked the decision-making process in the country's state parliament, an EU official told Balkan Insight on Wednesday.

The vote in the House of Peoples on Monday saw a new speaker and deputy speakers elected at the third attempt after previous efforts failed due to political battles among the key parties.

Deputies in the Federation parliament on Monday confirmed the appointments of the new entity officials as the country took another step towards forming governments after last October's elections.

The formation of the government in the Federation entity will also enable the formation of the state government, the Council of Ministers.
